LINKIN PARK
SIERRA AT TAHOE

Well, talk about fun in the sun! Sierra at Tahoe hosted their annual Boarding for Breast Cancer concert and ski and snowboard competition event. The weather was beautiful and the fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research and awareness was more than a total success. The event was completely sold out just after noon and a multitude of late coming concert-goers and skiers were turned away at the gates for the rest of the day. The competition was fierce in the half pipe contest, as one particularly sick and crazy individual was riding the pipe on telemark skis and catching more air than most of the boarders. I think this inspired all the riders in the competition to give it their all. This event rocks, you can ride right up to the perimeters of the concert area and be in front of the stage in no time at all. It was virtually impossible to cover this whole event by myself. So, Rocktime Magazine has some photos of the snowboard competition, but this year's review will only scope the fantastic music. The festivities began a little late with Stereomud and got even more snowed down when the Kottonmouth Kings played their set. This was very unfortunate for the sound and stage technicians as hundreds of snowballs were hurled at the band. This band was rocking too, this was not a disappointed crowd by any means. The lead singer actually asked the fans, half in jest, to see some snowballs thrown. I don't think he necessarily meant to have them shut down the show. But, after about a three minute constant onslaught of snowballs bombing the stage the mikes started to short out and the band's dj was screaming for mercy as he and the stage crew were holding up sweatshirts to keep the snow off the equipment. The first two songs were totally live and I was looking forward to what they had in store for us. I guess it was not meant to be as this band was exited stage left. The stage crew did a complete dry-off and the whole thing was up and running in a mere forty minutes as Static-X took to the limelight.
The buzz is Linkin Park and they set the stage on fire with their mix of hard core, punk rock, and rap. They have two real high energy lead singers and the hype was worth its weight as the crowd went nuts. This concert was all about healthy breasts and there was no shortage of these about the venue. A couple of the young ladies were even brave enough to drop their tops for the cause. The crowd was pumped and ready when called to duty for audience participation time. The band asked for it and the fans gave it up as Linkin Park performed their trademark hits "Crawling" and "In The End." Linkin Park's frontman wanted to know what it was like to start a pit on the snow and soon the crowdsurfing was out of control. The show wrapped up shortly after that leaving everybody trashed and thrashed from a hard day's ride and a mosh pit afternoon. Let's keep it safe out there kids, and we'll see ya at the shows.
