UNCHAINED!!!
Nothing stays the same! Especially, the lead singer of this band; who even after two line-up changes, has remained a staple of Rock'n'Roll for the past twenty years. Their popularity, due mainly to outstanding guitarist Eddie Van Halen, has certainly seen better days; judging from the half capacity crowd here in the Bay area. But, Eddie sounds as good as ever; so, if you love Van Halen, don't miss the show when it comes to your town. Eddie Van Halen is a pioneer of guitar experimentation, and has even developed his own unique style of playing most commonly known as "Hammering."Van Halen opened the show with classic Van Halen tune,"Unchained," from their fourth album,"Fair Warning." I knew right then, that, just as nothing ever stays the same; that some things will never change. Such as, the awesomely powerful force of this band's live performances; which have always been supercharged with energy. In the middle of the second song, Eddie sang part of the Beatle's,"We Can Work It Out." The rest of the show was fantastic, with the highlights being a great, "Dance the Night Away, "right into,"Feel Your Love." Followed by, "Shine On," into,"Somebody Get Me A Doctor." Then came Eddie Van Halen's guitar solo which, of course, contained a shredding version of,"Eruption," right in the middle of his ten minute solo. The rest of the band returned to the stage and they played, "Right Now," and ended the show with classic number,"Ain't Talking About Love," from their first album.
The encore was a new song,"Josephina," done duo by Eddie Van Halen on acoustic guitar and vocals, accompanied by Gary Cherone on vocals. Followed by, a tease of, "Everybody Wants Some," which quickly became,"Panama," and then, an uplifting rendition of,"Jump," to bring the concert to a close. Thanks for reading and we'll see ya at the shows.
