At center stage we have, weighing in at one hundred and forty four pounds, the demon of screaming, Ste---ven Tyler. If you've ever seen Aerosmith then you know what I'm talking about here. The end of the show is like sports meets rock and roll as Steven Tyler introduces the band in somewhat the fashion of introducing the starting line-up at a Boston Celtic's game. Then Joe Perry comes to the grandstand and in true WWF announcer fashion he lays out this great introduction. Funny though, as if everybody present didn't already have Tyler's name embedded in their rock and roll crazed brains forever. It is a great effect and a showy finale that lets youngsters and newcomers get to know the band. After all, it takes more than a front man to make a band as FAN-tastic as Aerosmith.Aerosmith rocks! There's no denying it. This show was better in some ways than the outdoor concert shows (see the photos from Shoreline Amphitheatre) from last summer. The stage was set up at chest level to the crowd and had an extension walkway that came out into the middle of the floor section. They played all their more popular numbers, "Sweet Emotion," "Dream On, "Walk This Way," "Love In An Elevator," and also smash hits from the new album "Just Push Play" and "Jaded." Steven walked right past the crowd in front without even taking a look and walked all the way to the end of the walkway and starting singing "Beyond Beautiful" to the crowd at the back of the place and they all went nuts. Joe Perry came out near the end of the song and strapped his guitar on for "Love In An Elevator, and proceeded to just take over the heavy riffs from there on out. The guitar was a star spangled bannered Gibson Les Paul. It shone with dazzling brilliance as the stage lights bounced rays of old glory into a sea of rock and roll tinted eyes.
Steven Tyler strutted around the stage giving everybody down on the floor a thrill of a lifetime. He was getting right down in all the girls faces and singing right to them and looking right in their eyes. These women will never be the same after being publicly serenaded by Steven, I think he strives to make them all feel like he's singing just for them. During "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" and "Crying," you could almost hear the hearts he was breaking as he would move on to next girl. The whole band was phenomenally charged with great energy from the crowd. The stage was set up with these VIP viewing booths in four spots right around the stage, it was the "Just Push Play Cafe," and you had to win one of the radio contests to get these great seats courtesy of KSJO radio station. The real treat for these particular winners was a special soundcheck performance just for them. That was where it really got thick and juicy folks as the band kicked out some rare meat getting ready for their appearance in Las Vegas at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. Thanks for reading and we'll see ya at the shows.
