JOE WALSH
3/2/2000
The Joint
Hard Rock Hotel
Las Vegas, NV.
Joe Walsh is back out on the road and you can expect a new solo album project coming from him soon, it is in the works right now and will be released sometime this year. Walsh will be rocking up and down the west coast for the next few weeks, most of these shows have not been announced yet, but stay tuned to Rocktime Magazine's concert calendar for more tour information. Joe hit the stage in Las Vegas on Thursday night at the Joint, in the Hard Rock Hotel, to kick off the first day of a tour that will stop in San Diego tonight and Los Angeles on Sunday. These are the only confirmed shows at this time, but Rocktime has gotten the early word that the next show will be in Vancouver, B.C. From there, the band will be jamming on down the coast through Washington, Oregon, and then back into California.Joe walked out on the stage, picked up his guitar and said, "Well, I got a new band." They went rocking right into "Walk Away," which I have to admit, this was exactly what I had wished for because I had woken up that morning with this song in my head. Then, Joe grabbed an acoustic guitar and did "Indian Summer," "Confessor," "Ashes," and "Meadows." Next, he said somehing about a funny song he wrote a while back. The song's lyrics might have been considered a little controversial at the time when it was released, but the record company released the album without paying too much attention, until the radio people called and said you can't do this. Joe had left the whole song title off of the album and had just titled the song ILBT's and turned it in to the record company. The record company man found out a little too late that it was really called "I Like Big Tits." So, that's what Joe sang next and we all loved it!!!
Things really started to cook right around this time, Joe played this little tiny space age looking guitar and did a great guitar solo near the end of "Turn to Stone." Then he pulled out a standard blues jam with his blue guitar and went out of his little talking blues jam story right into "Funk #49" and "Survival In The City." The crowd was halfway between sitting down and standing up at this point in time, but everybody immediately stood up and boogied down for "Life's Been Good To Me So Far." I'm pretty sure that Joe, or maybe the band, screwed this one up; either that, or the whole audience was singing the words wrong. It still sounded great, I just think there was a small timing problem. Joe's new band has only been practicing together for the last ten days, so I think that this speaks quite well for them as it was the only flaw in the entire evening's performance. The highlight of the show came next as a tried and true showman went to work. Joe strapped a black Rickenbaucher to his back and started wailing out rythym licks on a beautiful wood finish yellow Gibson that was in his hands making that grooving "Rocky Mountain Way" sound. Then he started doing his patented voicebox thing while swinging the Rickenbaucher around to the front for a barrage of absolutely shredding leads. That was the curtain call for the show and the band left the stage. They returned for an encore to let us know they were going to rock us "All Night Long." Thanks for reading and we'll see ya at the shows.
